At times like these the human spirit
Will lift you up and through;
Often from unexpected places
The sisterhood can surprise you.

Another often good with words
Comes completely unable to utter;
Whilst good old Rose from veggie shop
It's like gold the words she utters.

Helping hands and offers
Just come from everywhere;
You're not alone you know
We all want to show we care.

It's a long haul though with
The funeral being the first step;
To handling what life throws at you
And all your problems sidestep.

All the sisters in our group
We've known each other forever;
Are here for you anytime
So don't think you are clever.

Pretend you're strong if you must
To those outside alright?
To us we're here for you
Anytime day or night.

Mens wars are just sex mad
That's what the papers say;
That's no good my son's come home
Draped in a flag today.

I feel so hopeless and don't know
Why we can't all get on;
The differences in animals and plants
Don't wipe out the planet that we're on.

This grief makes me angry
It's not natural to die;
Away from family and friends
With a bullet in your side.

My life has now been shattered
Changed forever by some thug;
Waiving some maching gun
This hole I'll never plug.

The loss can be unbearable
At times I toss and turn;
I find it very hard to part
You're still sitting in your urn.

I cannot bear to put you under earth
Where it's dark and cold;
I'll have to do something my kids say
As I am getting old.

They don't want the job
Of tossing Dad at sea;
That is just what he wanted
But I want him with me.

The circle of life is complete
We all know it's got to come;
We're never really ready though
It's quite a shock to some.

While you are full of pain and sorrow
And the loss feels too much to bear;
There will always be tomorrow
And one day-you'll see and I'll be there!

One Final Gift

Scatter me not to the restless winds,
Nor toss my ashes to the sea.
Remember now those years gone by...
When loving gifts I gave to thee.
Remember now these happy times...
The family ties we shared.
Don't leave my resting place unmarked
As though you never cared.
Deny me not one final gift
For all who come to see...
A single lasting proof that says
I loved...and you loved me.

My grief is overwhelming
I cannot stand to be;
On this earth without my love
So say Goodbye to me.

I've got to join my love
I know that it's a sin;
But my life's over now
I cannot stay without him.

My heart wrung dry and empty
No one to hear my cries;
He was the only one for me
And there he goes and dies.

It was a surprise to both of us
He had never, ever been ill;
And now I suppose that's one thing
He never, ever will.
