I miss you laying on the floor
Looking at me with those eyes;
Waiting patiently for me to say
Let's go walkies see those skies.

Down by the park the sky lit up
Different to the other side of town;
With pinks and reds and soft hues
It made your fur a golden brown.

You listened as I spoke to you
Daily chores remembering to do;
I could tell you anything
You never told anyone did you.

You were my best friend
Of that there is no doubt;
I think of you the chain by the door
Every single time I go out.

Whether or not I ever change
And get another pet;
You will always be in my heart
And I'm not ready yet.

You knew my habits
And I knew yours;
You loved me no matter what
You held me in your paws.

Cuddled on the sofa
Watching silly films;
Running down the fields
Or the beach and palms.

You've left a gaping hole
I will fill some day;
But for now my thoughts of you
keep all of that at bay.

A Tribute to your pet dog

When God had made the earth and sky
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
the fish, the birds and bees.

And when at last He'd finished
not one was quite the same.
He said, "I'll walk this world of mine
and give each one a name."

And so He traveled far and wide
and everywhere He went,
a little creature followed Him
until it's strength was spent.

 When all were named upon the earth
and in the sky and sea,
the little creature said,
"Dear Lord,there's not one left for me."

 Kindly the Father said to him
"I've left you to the end
I've turned my own name back to front
and called you dog, My friend."

I can't believe you've gone
You left so suddenly;
Did I miss out on your last hours
Blind to your pain mistakenly.

I'm so sorry I'm quite bereft
It doesn't feel like home;
You were a big part of my life
As round the rooms you roamed.

Our walks together all gone now
Locked in my memory and heart;
I'll never forget the last goodbye
You will stay always in my heart.

In the park people ask
Their dogs look around for you;
We all miss you very much
And we loved you too.

I've buried you in the garden
No cemetery for you;
That was your favorite place
Under the old Yew.

You'd sit there every afternoon
When we had just returned;
From all over the place
A rest that you had earned.

So sleep well my pooch
I still feel close to you;
I'll still talk sometimes
As if you still knew.
